The SalesLogix web’s picklist control is a custom SalesLogix control that is actually an aggregate of a couple controls.  In order to get the value within the picklist control you can not use the normal syntax of getting the control’s value property.  What you need to do is get the inner control’s value property.

Normally in client side script you could do something like this:

document.getElementById(control.ClientID).value;

This will not work with the picklist control, instead you need to get the inner Text controls value property.  The picklist control will always render with the text control portion of the picklist having the naming convention of the picklist control + “_Text”.  Knowing this we can change the java script code slightly like so:

document.getElementById(control.ClientID + “_Text”).value;

 This code will allow you to determine the picklist value client side.
