If you are using Xbar along with Infor CRM SLX, and are logging in with Infor CRM credentials, it might lock your account when your Infor CRM password is changed. If you experience this issue in your environment, there are ways to prevent it. The issue can occur because Xbar frequently talks to the server, presenting user credentials to the server each time. If a user changes their password in CRM, the old password will still be in Xbar until it is manually changed there. Depending on the environment, Xbar might hit the server a sufficient number of times to lock the user’s account before they are able to change the password in Xbar. Note that I have also seen environments in which Xbar can hold the wrong password for several minutes without locking the account, so your mileage may vary.

While it is possible to just let the user account lock, change the password in Xbar, and then unlock the user account; with a bit of planning you can prevent the account from locking in the first place, and thereby avoid the need to log in as admin to unlock the account. In the Xbar section of Outlook, click on Options. Choose Connection on the upper left, and locate the top server line. We are going to prevent Xbar from hitting the server by messing up the server address. Copy the server address and paste to convenient Notepad file (or wherever), then change the server address so it will no longer connect. (Add a few Z’s to the beginning or end, replace the whole thing with asdfasdf, it really doesn’t matter). Verify that Xbar can no longer connect, and click OK.

Now change your CRM password using the CRM client of your choice. Go back to the Connection screen of Options in Xbar, and find the password line. Make sure to change that to your new password, and only then change the Server address back to the correct address. Xbar should connect and begin working again, and at no time did it hit the server with the former password after it was changed.
