I posted before about a new Customer FX product I’ll have coming out soon, called Outlook2CRM for SalesLogix (now in beta!). This product provides a SalesLogix toolbar in Outlook for performing SalesLogix tasks for e-mails. Outlook2CRM also allows you to add your own custom buttons (and get rid of or change the out of the box ones on the Outlook2CRM toolbar) as well and tie it up to your own custom plugins in SalesLogix. Think of this as a Toolbar plugin for Outlook that you would customize in the same way you would a toolbar plugin in Architect for adding to the SalesLogix toolbar. Forget the OOTB Advanced Outlook Integration, this SalesLogix Outlook integration is customizable!
The process is easy to add new buttons on the Outlook2CRM toolbar. You create a script or form to provide the “action“ behind the button, include an Outlook2CRM API script which makes all details of the selected e-mail accessible, including attached files, inline images, matching contact record, etc. The API include script marshals in a reference to a .NET object so you can access properties of the e-mail via the .NET wrapper – all exposed as easy to use functions in the API include script. Pretty cool if you ask me. To demonstrate just how easy it is to add a custom button in Outlook2CRM and a script to handle the event, I put together a video showing how to create a custom button to create a history item from an e-mail in Outlook.
As you can see, the process is brain-dead easy. You can take things much further than just creating a new history item for the selected e-mail. The sky is the limit.
