How to insert all users into a given role in the SalesLogix web client

The SalesLogix web client requires you to add each user individually into the Role that they should belong to.  When you first implement the web one of the first things you should do is to add all your users to the standard user role.  This can be tedious to do manually.  Attached is a SQL script that can allow you to do this automatically:

insert into userrole
(USERROLEID, CREATEUSER, CREATEDATE, MODIFYUSER, MODIFYDATE, USERID, ROLEID)
select
right(d.roleid,9) + cast(rank() OVER (ORDER BY a.userid) as varchar(3)) as USERROLEID,
‘ADMIN’ CREATEUSER,
getutcdate() CREATEDATE,
‘ADMIN’ MODIFYUSER,
getutcdate() MODIFYDATE,
a.userid USERID,
d.ROLEID
from userinfo a left join userrole b on a.userid=b.userid left join
usersecurity c on a.userid=c.userid left join
(select top 1 roleid from role where rolename=’Standard User’) d on 1=1
where b.userid is null and c.type not in (‘T’,’R’)

Notice in this SQL statement I am creating a unique primary ID which starts with the last 9 characters of the ROLEID we are inserting plus an incrementing counter for each user being added.  This should be sufficiently unique in all situations, regardless of how many different roles you want to add users for by modifying the statement.

To switch what role you want to add users for you just need to change the line shown below, with the portion in red being the important factor:

(select top 1 roleid from role where rolename=‘Standard User’) d on 1=1

If you wanted you could insert only a subset of users into a role by adding an additional criteria to the where clause such as:

where b.userid is null and c.type not in (‘T’,’R’) and title like ‘%manager%’
