SalesLogix Job and/or Web Services Fail to Start

If your Infor CRM installation includes the job service and/or web components, the services that power those features authenticate using the WebDLL domain account.*  As a part of initial setup, this account is given local rights to log on as a service.  On most networks there is no problem with this, but on some networks, domain group policy will overwrite this user right, and the service will be unable to start.  In the short term, this can be fixed by reentering the WebDLL account password on the SalesLogix job and web services.  If the issue becomes a recurring problem, it might be necessary to grant WebDLL the appropriate rights in domain group policy.

To fix the problem, we must update the domain group policy and explicitly give the service user the “Log on as a service” right. To do so:

  1. Open Group Policy Management.  Right-click Default Domain Policy for your domain and select Edit.
  2. On the left, browse to Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies, then click User Rights Assignment.
  3. Double-click Log On As A Service (right side).  Add WebDLL to the list and click OK to record the change.

*WebDLL is the default name of the account Infor users in their literature.  Substitute the correct service account name if you use something different.
